CONJM1 "H" Block Log Cabin, or Japanese Lanterns Quilt

c.1890
82 x 82 inches
Maine
$900

Straight from the descendants of the quilter, this one appears to not to have been used. As it was not used we were the first ones to wash this quilt.

Comprised of blocks measuring 10-1/2" x 10-1/2". Each "log" is 7/8" wide. The center chimney is 2-1/2" x 2-1/2" with Logs from 2-5/8" to 10-1/2" in length. All pieces are hand pieced with the quilt being tied. The 3/8" separate binding is applied by machine in a pink and white calico. The backing is a stripe in a blueish green and olive.

The fabrics date from the 1870's to the very early part of the 1890's. A fabulous array of prints! The reason I say the early part of the 1890's is because there are so few of this date prints...where most of the fabrics are from the 1880's. All fabrics appear to have been unused at a previous time.....where the backing fabric appears to have been used.

As this quilt comes directly from the family we are lucky enough to have information...which will be supplied upon sale.
