This pattern is one of my favorites and is even the design I use on my cards and stationary. Here we have a delicious Lemon Yellow and white Feathered Star that is perfectly executed.

The blocks measure 11-1/4" and are joined by a Lemon Yellow 2-1/4" sashing. The joining blocks, in white, measure 2-1/4" X 2-1/4 ". Taking this quilt to a higher "level" is the triple border with a 2-1/4" yellow strip, then a 2-3/8" white strip and another 2-1/4" strip in yellow. There is a 3/8" separately applied binding also in the lemon yellow.

The tiny triangles which make up the outer edges of the star measure 7/8" x 7/8" x 1-1/4"! The corner triangle has 1-1/4" sides. The white corner squares have 4-1/4" sides, while the white outer joining triangles measure 4 x 4 x 5-1/2". We have the 9 block pattern used for each of the corners which measure 6-1/4" and are an unusual addition to this pattern.

All piecing and quilting are executed by hand. There is echo quilting, chain quilting, quilted stars and more designs in various areas.

A Patriotic quilt that was constructed from solid cotton feed-sacks and a cotton blue chambray along with a red cotton fabric. The white backing was also constructed from white feed-sacks.

The diamonds that make up the design have 1-3/4" sides with the entire blocks measure 11-1/2". All piecing and quilting are executed by hand. The quilting is average, but all diamonds are outline quilted with a medallion quilted in each of the solid squares. There are 3-1/2" wide borders on two sides with a 1/4" binding turned over from the front to the back and closed by treadle machine. These two borders are quilted with a double chain design. The opposite two sides have the binding turned over from the back to the front and closed by treadle machine. This graphic quilt exudes a comforting feeling.

It is possible that the feed-sack fabrics are a clue to the family being farmers.

The size of this quilt was made for a double bed but would fit the top of a queen size bed or make a very graphic piece of textile art for your wall.

Created from squares measuring 2-1/4" with 16 squares together for a 9" block for a complete pattern. This is a way to create this design that I have never seen. We also have a 2-1/4" yellow border with a separately applied 1/4" yellow binding. The backing is a white cotton. The quilting stitches are very tiny and even.

I look at this quilt as a visually comforting textile. Created from a variety of shades of blue with two accent blocks containing a darker blue stripe. Did this fabric have a special meaning so as to include it in her quilt? I say "her" because at that time almost all quilters would have been women. Isn't it nice that this has changed? 🙂

All piecing was executed by machine. The quilting, which is hand done, is not the very best. The quilting actually does not show. This quilt is all about visuals. The muted colors and the pattern result in a quilt that just makes me smile. 🙂

Stars have been a favorite design of quilters for hundreds of years. This quilt is a stunning example of the String Star pattern. Comprised of dozens of Depression era fabrics..we have plaids, stripes, solids and calicoes, in strips measuring 3/4" to 1-1/4" in width. There are 1344 strips! The prominent color is blue with a major accent of red. One place or another is every color imaginable. All piecing and quilting is by hand. The 1/4" binding is machine applied. Women would not brag and this was her way of showing that she owned a treadle sewing machine. I cannot think of another reason as the binding would be the easiest part of creating a quilt!

The fabric joining the stars is a very muted beige dot on an off white. The quilting on the stars is interesting as it follows the outline of the diamond shaped pieced points. The joining areas are quilted in a 1" diagonal crosshatch pattern with very small even stitches. There is a double border of a 1-1/4" in a solid red and a 1-1/4" strip of off white with the same tiny dots fabric. The separately applied binding is in the same solid red as the inner border. Backing is a solid white fabric making it easy to see all the extensive quilting.

A truly Patriotic quilt, created during World War II ,that appears never to have been used...I do know that we are the first to wash it. This beauty still feels "crisp"! Having a quilt that actually shows motion takes a pattern to another level.. This quilt can easily be used on a bed or hung as art on your wall.

Comprised of three fabrics..a red with stars, a blue with stars, and white. All hand executed..both piecing and quilting. The blocks measure approximately 14" square with a wide sashing that measures 5" both horizontally and vertically. The separately applied binding measures 1/4" and is in the same white as the body of the quilt. The backing is also white making it easy to see the extensive quilting.

The quilting stitches are very even and small. The quilting patterns are interesting. All bars are outline quilted, sashing is a chain design, the corner squares have a quilted daisy pattern. A daisy quilted pattern, a touch of whimsy, must mean something to the maker...The opposite corner blocks are quilted with a six pointed star pattern.

Created from thousands of "logs" of 1920's -"30's calicoes, plaids, stripes and solids. The longest piece measures 6" x 1-1/8"...the shortest measures 1-1/2" x apx. 3/4". Each block measures 15" x 15". The solid Marine Blue stars are so cheerful. Here we have a wonderful study of the huge array of Depression era fabrics.

The piecing was done by treadle machine while the hand quilting stitches are small and even. The blue stars are heavily quilted with 4 Tulip designs.

The backing is a solid light blue with the 1/4" binding turned over from the back to the front and hand stitched down. The backing does have some straight line fading where the quilt was folded inside out and stored for years. The front is perfect!

We adore this quilt! Such a happy quilt 🙂 There must be a thousand 1" hexagons, many of these are "fussy cut". That means every hexagon in that group has the same exact print showing..ie. hexagons with three masted schooners. We even have a row of hexagons of puppies!

The rage of certain colors have added aqua to the list of what people are looking for. The prominent color here is aqua. However there are dozens of other 1950's colors and prints. An eclectic delight in patterns and colors.

Executed by hand...both pieced and quilted. Each hexagon pattern which is outline quilted is also a pattern that can only be pieced by hand. The exception here is the edge which has been machine closed with a zig-zag stitch in miniature.

There is a border of two rows of hexagons in various shades of Aqua, creating a frame for this quilt.

The wholecloth backing is a very distinctive 1950's print in orange and brown, which in turn makes this quilt reversible.

This amazingly beautiful Hawaiian quilt was purchased by a family while in Hawaii. Now, 75 years later, this beauty is up for sale. While treasured by the family and never used, it is now organically hand washed and ready to belong to the next person.

All true Hawaiian quilts have the main pattern cut from one piece of fabric. Many times this means sewing huge pieces of fabric together to create one large piece of fabric. There are many traditional Hawaiian Patterns.

Hawaiian quilts are always quilted with an echo design pattern. The echo quilting resembles the waves in the ocean, so important to the way of life in Hawaii. All quilting here is 3/4" apart and executed with small even stitches. The separately applied binding is 1/2" in width and always matches the color of the main design.

A graphically spectacular Trip Around The World Amish quilt is made from wonderful Wool challis fabrics. All of these fabrics appear to be unused and in perfect condition..there are a very few stains that are barely noticeable.

The Amish from Lancaster, PA. have as a clue to the fact that the origin is only Lancaster County, PA., are the four corner blocks. Wool challis was and still is a very expensive fabric. This stunning quilt was machine pieced as are most, if not all, Amish quilts. Another attribute to the Lancaster Amish is their exquisite quilting. This quilt is no exception.

The outside border measures 12-1/2" including the 1-1/4" separately applied binding in almost the same color brown. The quilting design is a meandering feather wreath border...very beautifully done. The corner squares measure 11-1/4" Square and contain a continuation of the Feather Wreath Border.

The squares that comprise the main pattern are quilted with diagonal crosshatching. The stitches are all beautifully executed. There is a maroon border that is 3-5/8" on two sides and 3-1/2" on the other two sides. The quilting on these borders is a meandering leaf and vine with some flowers design. All quilting is perfect.

The backing is a cozy light cotton flannel making the quilt light, but warm.

Probably this was saved for Sunday Best or not used at all.

An unusual Trip Around The World executed in the format of the Amish Log Cabin Barn Raising configuration.

In mint condition, constructed from squares which measure 1-5/8". There are hundreds of squares constructed from unused fabrics. The squares are machine pieced, which is typical of both Amish and Mennonite quilts. Each square is crosshatch quilted on the diagonal with nice even stitching. There are three borders, each measuring 2-1/2" in width. These are also machine pieced. The quilting is the same: even and nicely executed. The quilting is a herringbone design, also perfectly executed.

This quilt is graphically wonderful to see on different levels ..to me it also has an optical illusion look! The colors range from Black to white, with every color except purple contained in this very colorful and cheerful textile. The whole cloth backing is a rose pink calico, making this textile reversible.

Fabric and pattern companies were very smart in assisting quilters with an easy way to buy fabric and patterns in one step. Quilters did all the creative work on the Kit quilts. Fabric came stamped with the quilting design and where to place all appliqued pieces. It was the quilters' talent that created the finished product.

Here is a beautiful, cheery quilt that is in unused condition. The front and back are both wholecloth in the same happy yellow. All work was executed by hand by an experienced quilter with nice even small quilting. The applique work is also very even and executed with small stitches. Because of the wholecloth backing this quilt is completely reversible. What sets this quilt apart are the initials appliqued in the center. The edge is so unusual with cutouts in a wide V shape every 13" or so. The separately applied 3/16" tiny binding is put on by machine and finished by hand. This is the only machine work on this quilt.

Quilting is diaGONAL, some crosshatched and some outlining the center medallion. Quilting is 1-1/4 " apart in straight line grids. Inside the Center Medallion the quilting is 1/2" apart and follows the triangular shaped medallion. Even though this quilt was created to include a pillow tuck, it fits my king size bed turned sideways.

This unused Umbrella Girls quilt takes this pattern to another level with the wonderful embellishment of each of the 12 girls.

Not only is the applique work perfect, but in addition, each piece and part of their outfit and accessories are outlined with a perfect running stitch in black thread.

Each block measures 15" X 15". The sashing is 3-1/2" in width with the triple border comprised of three strips each 3" in width. There is a 1/4" separately applied binding applied by machine and closed by hand. Blocks and strips were assembled by machine while all work on the "girls" was executed by hand.

All blocks are quilted with a straight line 3/4" crosshatched grid. All sashing and border strips are quilted in a 1" horizontal grid. Quilting is excellent with nice perfectly even and relatively small stitches.

I do not see how one can look at this quilt and not smile! Just happy,happy..:-)

This mint condition quilt may be an original optical illusion design of the well known Double Wedding Ring pattern.

Created from dozens of fine English fabrics made by Liberty Of London. One can easily see different design patterns perfectly executed all by hand. In addition to this unusual pattern the maker has surrounded the quilt's border with a brick design taking this graphically amazing design to another level. A border on a quilt is comparable to the frame on a painting with its importance both visually and technically.

The joining squares, which actually have created the Nine Patch pattern, measure 2" X 2". The curved pieces in the Wedding Ring circle measure 1/2" x 2" X 3/4". The border bricks measure 10" in length and are actually comprised of 5 2" squares. The 3/8" white binding is separately applied also by hand.

In some cases quilt patterns can give us an insight to the quilter. My feeling is that this woman loved life as well as being a superb designer, applicator and quilter. The applique stitches are almost invisible....perfect and tiny. Antique quilts applique thread usually matched the color of the fabric. With careful inspection one can see that the thread of some trees is a dark yellow, which would have matched the color of some birds and 4 trees. The other trees would also have been darker matching the fabric's original color. This helps date the quilt. World War 1 American dyes were fugitive..in other words they did not hold their color. As a piece of quilted art this quilt is stunning, happy, creative and perfectly executed.

There are 4 Trees of Life, two on opposite sides with a potted plant on each of the two other sides. We have happily flying birds, cherry trees, even an embroidered bee.

The 10" border is a meandering vine with cherries and leaves with a 3/4" meandering vine winding around the quilt. There is straight line quilting on all sides. There is a center circular medallion which to me resembles a bird bath with birds happily flying about. The main body of the quilt is quilted in such a way that the design looks like rays of sun. What a happy piece!

A wholecloth off white backing showing beautiful quilting has enabled this quilt to actually be reversible.

This pattern is the quintessential Lancaster, PA. Amish quilt...and the most sought after Amish pattern. This mint condition quilt was created from wool crepe, a very expensive and special fabric. Amish could never use printed fabric on the front of their quilts, but a printed fabric on the back was fine to use. The printed fabrics are an important part of dating a quilt. The backing fabric is from the early 1920's and so is this magnificent quilt. From the colors used here I would say that this quilt was started earlier, as in the teens.

The center Diamond measures 28" square on point. Surrounding the center are burgundy triangles measuring 21" X 31" X 21". Next is the border 3-3/4" in width with the signature corner 4 blocks having 3-3/4" sides. Outer borders measure 12" in width which includes a separately applied 1" binding.

For some reason we have trouble correctly capturing some of the Amish colors. The colors used here are sky blue, forest green and burgundy. Amish quilts were pieced by using a treadle machine. All extraordinary quilting was always executed by hand. The designs quilted here are those of a very unusual floral pattern...Wreaths with flowers. Meandering vines with flowers, a scalloped quilting around the center Diamond, and wreaths embellished with flowers resembling the pattern known as Rose Wreath.

For years I have looked for this pattern to no avail. Well...Now I have a perfect example of this very difficult to execute pattern. Points, circles and curves are some of the most difficult to execute in piecing or applicating any quilt pattern. The 15-1/2" light blue border is pieced, by hand, to the inner white body of the quilt. Other than this and a separately applied 3/8" binding, all work was also appliqued by hand with almost invisible stitches. Each appliqued piece is outline quilted. The blue border is quilted, with perfectly even stitches, in crosshatched horizontal lines 1-1/4" apart. The main body of this quilt shows multiple quilting designs including 4 leaf clovers and a circular design I have never before seen.

Each snowflake, in a seafoam blue, is approximately 13-1/2" wide. The diamonds, point to point, measure 4-1/2" with the center circle measuring 1-3/8" in diameter. The pattern is not only perfectly executed, but emulates such happiness and joy....something the world needs more of.

A Triple Square Diamond in a Square! These are so rare and this one is in mint condition. We always have trouble getting Amish quilt colors exactly right...The colors in his quilt are: Deep red, purple, gray, hunter green, and chartreuse. One reason why I always send quilts on approval is due to colors. Different computers are set different ways resulting in colors that do not show up correctly. In the case of Amish quilts created from wool challis this is even more pronounced. Other quilts are correct in their colors on my end..however Amish wool challis colors are a problem on this end.

The outside purple strips measure 14" in width including the 1-1/4" hunter green separately applied binding. Large corner blocks measures apx. 12-3/4". The next strip is gray and measures 3-3/4" in width with the corner squares measuring 3-1/2". The large hunter green triangles measure 21" x 21" x 29". The inner most strips measure 3-3/8", while their corner blocks in chartreuse have sides measuring 3-1/8" . The large Center Square on point measures 22 inches and is in the same deep red as the outside corner blocks. The backing of this quilt is an earlier blue on gray wave pattern.

By this time piecing was usually executed with a treadle sewing machine. While at the same time Amish women accomplished the most exquisite quilting designs. Here we have an exquisite meandering wreath design in the outermost borders, a meandering grape vine with grapes on both gray borders, a wreath design in the center deep red square on point and a beautifully quilted 6 pointed star in the center. Even more quilting than described.

It appears that this mint condition example of an antique Amish quilt was never used...or possibly only for Sunday Best, but not for use as an every night bed quilt. A double Four Corner Blocks Amish quilt is their premier symbol of their amazing history of quilt making. The Amish never used printed fabrics on the front of their quilts. The fabrics used were that of their clothing also always solid color fabrics. Using wonderful fabrics such as this expensive wool challis, to create artistic master pieces in cloth.

The bars measure 3-1//2" to 3-3/4" in width, the small joining blocks are 4" X 4" with 2 of the outside wide border measures 13" with the outer inch being the typical Lancaster Amish 20th century separately applied binding. The innermost border measures 4 inches joining the innermost joining squares. The opposite borders measure almost 14" in width with the outside the 1" binding. The large four squares sides measure 13-1/2 inches. The backing is a heavier cotton in a light green.

The outside border is filled with a beautiful quilted leaf design. The inner border is quilted in a design that is best described as a double line square on point filled with a floral pattern. The bars are quilted in a crosshatch 1" straight line design. Where the backing is a light fabric and the thread used for quilting is dark, one can easily see the exquisite quilting on the back in addition to seeing the exquisite quilting on the front.

There was a recent time in our country where items were made to last forever...Today we have become what is called a throw away society. Whatever was being made was executed with skill and the thought that "it" would last forever...or at least a very, very long time! Waste not/want not was a well known saying. This wonderful "Bars" quilt is a perfect example of the fore described trait.

There are 49...4-1/2" blocks comprised if 3 to 4 strips. Many of these strips were made from as many as 4 different pieces of fabrics...scraps not to be thrown away, but used! The result here is that of a funky sophisticated Bars quilt. That may sound like an oxymoron, but the quilt is sophisticated with many Bars comprised of scraps of fabrics. We have plaids, stripes, florals and solids all combined in an artistic manner.

The back is another quilt...large squares separated by 2' strips. All work was executed by hand. The separately hand applied binding is a red and white striped silk ribbon. The result from this quilter is a beautiful, unusual and visually wonderful small quilt.

A snowball quilt is a rarity, and this one is a beauty! A mint quilt means never used and never washed...I have organically hand washed this quilt, making it now in a category called "unused". A two color quilt in a very patriotic Blue and white that would fit a queen bed or become a cozy throw.

A quilter must really be proficient to use a colored thread for quilting. This talented woman quilted with a matching blue thread, enabling the miniature 4-1/2" medallions to visually stand out. Between each 2-1/2" snowball there is a block, on point, of a quilted medallion outlined with a double row of quilting. There is a double border..one blue and one white. Each border measures 3-1/4" in width. There is a 1/2" separately applied binding in the same very wonderful 1950's blue. The double border is quilted on the diagonal, with double line quilting mirroring the double line quilting around each medallion.

All work on this very happy quilt was executed by hand! The snowballs were hand appliqued onto the white fabric. The condition of this quilt is perfect.

I find old Amish quilts usually very geometric as well as wonderfully executed. This unique Amish quilt is no exception. Created from 2 designs for the blocks. A Nine Patch block measuring 8-1/4" X 8-1/4" with the squares measuring 2-3/4" each in width. One nine patch block is comprised of solid square with alternating blocks of Nine Patch Variable Stars. There is a double border. The inner most border is a Bars border made up of bars measuring apx. 1" X 2 " in all the colors of the inner blocks. The outer border in black which measures 7" including a 3/8" separately applied light brown binding as found in some of the inner pieces.

As with all Amish quilts the piecing was executed by machine with all quilting by hand. The main body of the quilt has been quilted in a cross hatch pattern, the border in a wave design and the bars in a zig-zag design.

The size of this quilt is perfect for numerous uses...A graphically wonderful piece of art for your wall...a throw for your bed or couch. No reason not to use this quilt as with most of my quilts.

Just received from twenty years in a private collection this mint condition, graphically wonderful perfectly executed masterpiece, which is ready for a new home.

Mint condition in a quilt means never used and never washed. Before it was washed, one was unable to see the quilting pattern. Washing shrinks the unwashed fabric of an all cotton quilt enough so it beautifully "puckers". As a result the quilting becomes almost three dimensional...when nicely quilted, or in this case extensively quilted! Before washing, this amazing quilt measured 82" X 82". Now this quilt measures 81" X 81". One cannot find an area of the quilt that is not exquisitely and perfectly quilted. Each 2" diamond is quilted all around. The beautiful medium blue areas joining the points are each quilted with a medallion motif or a half medallion motif. All areas in and around these medallions are also beautifully quilted. Some areas are even double lined quilted.

All piecing was executed by machine as is typical of the Amish and Amish quilting technique. Obviously it is not due to lack of skill. The 1/4" separately applied binding was added by machine and closed by hand. The wholecloth backing is an exquisite 1890s fabric in a minuscule print of black, green, and white.

This exquisite quilt would fit a queen size bed with 10" over each side or become a truly amazingly graphic piece of art for your wall. When hanging this quilt in a curatorially correct manner, or when placed on a bed, the bottom and sides of this quilt are perfectly straight and will not wave as it does in the photo.

Curved sides are a 20th century design. This Depression Era quilt, which is optical illusion in design, is a perfect example of this style. The solid marine blue and white Extended Nine Patch designs are joined by eye shaped pieces creating the variation of the Pickle Dish design. Curved pieces are among the hardest to work with in piecing a quilt top. This quilt is perfectly executed! The quilting designs are echo quilting, diagonal and crosshatching. The separately applied blue binding is the perfect finishing to this graphically wonderful quilt.

The size of this quilt will fit a twin, double or queen size bed due to the fact that this quilt may be use in either direction.

The solid marine blue is a soft, yet bold color. Easy to fit into ones decor is the fact that the fabric is solid therefore without a print that might compete with other fabrics you may be using.

During the late 1800s and into the 1900s, many men were known to smoke cigars. The clever cigar companies offered premiums: flannel flags of various nationalities were included in the wooden cigar boxes so that the wife would encourage her husband to buy certain brands. These flags were usually placed in Victorian crazy quilts, however, there are a few examples of quilts made up completely of these cigar premiums. This is one such example.

Each flag measures 7" X 10". There are emblems on each corner which, when matched up together in this quilt, appear to be 1-1/2" joining blocks. There is a 3/8" separately applied binding. The quilt top was pieced during the early part of the twentieth century. The backing was put on later by Rocky Mountain Quilts. We have done this work for others, but this is the first of our own quilts to be finished this way.

It has cotton batting, an excellent RJR reproduction circa 1920s backing and a binding made from the same date as the front. The quilt is reverse tied and we have added the two sleeves necessary for hanging. Cigar premiums can not be washed because the colors will run. Thus this quilt should not be used on a bed, except for show, as it cannot be washed. This interesting quilt contains flags from many different countries. Its smaller size and notable design would make it a fine wall hanging for a den or family room, an office, or a child's room.

An all white quilt is so very difficult to photograph, but, here goes 😄 A white quilt's beauty is its elaborate quilting designs and the fact that it goes with any decor.

The minuscule quilting is perfect...The center medallion is that of a Prince's Feather Design with a star quilted in the center of the feathers and measures 3 feet square. Around the Feather Design is crosshatching 3/4" apart..around the center medallion is a beautifully quilted meandering vine pattern. The entire balance of the quilt is crosshatched in a 3/4" grid. The edge is turned over from the front to the back and hand stitched down..actually this quilt is completely reversible. The only wear I see is slight wear on one edge of the binding.

The pictures you see are only closeups as the distant photo is one I cannot make work 🙁

Spring is here...at least with this quilt. 😄 A wonderful wedding present too special to use, and saved for almost 100 years. Now someone gets to enjoy this happy quilt, now freshly organically washed by me. As a result of only one wash the pencil lines for quilting are faint, but can still be discerned. It is easy to see that this quilt was a wedding present because of all the quilted heart medallions.

There are 16 blocks measuring apx. 12-1/2" X 12-3/4". These blocks are joined with creative sashing measuring 1-1/8" in width, joining blocks are 1-1/8" X 1-2/8". The side borders measure 10-1/2", the bottom border measures 10-3/4", the top border measures 10-3/4". The off white fabric is the same on the back as it is on the front. With this being so heavily quilted one is able to reverse the quilt to an off white whole cloth quilt.

The quilting is amazing! There are 24 Heart medallions measuring 9" in diameter. These hearts have double line quilting outlining the circumference of the heart. Inside the hearts is a diagonal crosshatch design with 3/4" apart lines. Surrounding each heart is a row of "feathers". Between the hearts is double line quilting reminiscent of a 19th century design. This design has 2 rows 1/4" apart, then the next two lines 3/4" from there. The nice even quilting stitches are very small and perfectly executed. The baskets are all appliqued with such small stitches that they can barely be seen. The edge is closed by the pillowcase method again with tiny even stitches.

Another fun fact is a few "fussy Cut" designs...one is a tiny elephant!!

Here we have a pair of Sunflower quilts that are using a very popular color for the sashing and binding. Each quilt has 20 blocks that measure approximately 10-1/2" X 10-1/2". This competent quilter did not always create the same size blocks..Let's call this "Character" 😄 Vertical sashing is 5" in width, the horizontal sashing measures 5-3/4" in width. Borders on these quilts measure 2-3/4" in width. There is a 1/4" separately applied binding. The horizontal quilting design is crosshatching in a 1" grid. The vertical quilting design is one of stacked leaves in a vine pattern. The quilting stitching is very even and consistently executed. Both quilts are pieced by machine and quilted by hand.

The stitches are perfectly matched and show hundreds of hours of work. Each block measures 15" X 15". The border measures 7-1/4", including a 3/8" separately applied binding. The quilting design contains hearts, flowers, vines and crosshatching. The quilting varies from 1' to 1-1/4' with nice even quilting.

There are around 12 different designs, many reminiscent of Baltimore Quilt designs along with the possibility of exciting happenings in the life of a couple.

A wonderfully executed 20th Century rendition of the Whig Rose pattern. Due to its size, this quilt should fit even a queen size bed. If you love the combination of blue and pink...here is a quilt for you...How wonderful this quilt would look in a cottage...never used and now ready to be loved.

The blocks on point measure 10". The brilliant rose-pink and a same tone blue combine with a small amount of green and white to create a very happy piece of art! All applique work is perfect as is the minuscule quilting. Every other block is blue with medallion quilting with all areas filled in with more quilting. The Rose block has straight line quilting in all white areas. There is elongated oval quilting joining the blue blocks to each other. All appliqued blocks are outline quilted with circular quilting in the pink section of the Rose. All quilting is minuscule and perfect!

There is a wonderful double border on three sides. The width if the blue is 5", width of the pink is 4-1/2" with a 1/4" binding as part of the blue border measurements. The blocks and sashing are joined by machine. The binding is applied by machine and closed by hand. The backing is an off white fine muslin. The wholecloth backing, with such wonderful quilting, makes this a quilt you could reverse just to enjoy the design!

This unusual and adorable pink and white cotton quilt is perfect for a little girl's bed. The large size will actually fit a queen size bed...or any smaller bed.

The "papercut" dancing angels are beautifully hand appliqued with small, perfectly even stitches. The quilting designs consist of medallions, vines, horizontal checkerboard quilting, with cute crosshatching to fit the middle of the appliqued angels, adding an extra touch. The 1/4" binding is turned over from the back to the front. The backing is a wholecloth same color solid pink and may be reversed. On the pink side the quilting designs are easy to see and enjoy.

The actual name of this pattern is Rob Peter to Pay Paul ...Here we have hearts, not just curved pieces. Completely hand pieced and hand quilted. The quilting design was executed in parallel lines apx. 1" apart. Each 5-1/2" block will have the quilting going in the opposite direction from the block next to it. The 1/4" binding was turned over from the back to the front and hand stitched down.

I have never seen this wonderfully happy rendition of the Butterfly pattern. I feel that a very creative woman was the maker of this quilt. ...it really makes me smile. There are 54 butterflies that seem to be in flight! Fifty butterflies are an array of depression era fabrics, while the 16" x 24" center medallion has six Depression era solid color fabrics. The middle yellow sashing is 3-3/4" wide while the outer yellow sashing measures 4-1/2". The applique work, buttonhole stitches outlining the butterflies, as well as all embellishment, are beautifully executed. The quilt is closed with a 1/4" separately hand applied binding, sky blue in color.

This quilt has been lovingly used and only shows wear on two sides of the binding. We can restore these with same date fabric if desired...please ask for information.

What a treasure...A mint condition Log Cabin quilt with a cozy flannel backing. This quilt is perfect to use on a bed, or a wonderful wall hanging in a size that is easier to fit in many homes.

The blocks measure approximately 8-1/2" X 8-1/2". The Logs are approximately 1/2" in width and vary from 2-1/2" to 8-1/2". The chimney measures approximately 2-1/4" square. There are a large variety of fabrics..We have wools, cottons, cotton flannels and even a variety of upholstery fabrics! All of these different fabrics lead to a visually interesting textile. We even have a black cotton fabric that has been embellished with dots created from silk embroidery thread. The flannel backing adds another dimension...that of a cozy cuddle quilt that one may happily "wrap up in".

There is a variety of colors from creamy white to black. An actual scrapbag quilt that makes a stunning visual presentation.

Missionaries from New England brought patchwork quilting, reflecting their own learned style and techniques, to the Hawaiian Islands in the 1820's. Fabric scraps, flour sacks, and feed sacks the missionaries brought with them were distributed to Hawaiian women for use in their quilting bees. But Hawaiian clothing, cut straight and full, did not lend itself to scraps for saving to make quilts. Cutting new yardage into little scraps to sew back together into a quilt seemed futile and a wasted effort. It was a natural progression for these creative, artistic women to develop patterns of their own. Drawing on Hawaiian culture their quilt making became more individualistic and a reflection of their lives, history, and natural surroundings. Hawaiian women developed their own technique of cutting designs out of a large piece of folded fabric (similar technique to cutting out paper snowflakes), sometimes using a paper pattern of their creation, other times the designs were cut freehand. The cut fabric was then basted onto the background fabric, appliqued using tiny stitches, and hand quilted following the outline of their design.

This gorgeous Hawaiian quilt was created using the most commonly used style; a square design with either a broken or unbroken border, cut from fabric folded diaper-wise, eightfold. Once the border was cut the remaining large center piece was similarly cut folded to create the center medallion. Solid leaf green on a slightly off white ground, this intricate pattern's name is unknown, however it is similar to the 'Lei Mamo' pattern - the feather of the mamo bird favored by Hawaiian royalty. Graceful and quite elegant, this is a lovely example of the classic Hawaiian quilt.

Applique stitches are tiny and the hand quilting is executed beautifully in the traditional echo outlining of the design. The applied half inch binding is the same medium leaf green used for the interior design. The backing is the same off white used for the front. Happy happy happy! That is my first emotion upon viewing this quilt. Then we have the intellectual response which is: captivating design, beautifully appliqued and quilted!

The green border and the white areas are machine pieced. The balance of this quilt is beautifully executed by hand including all hand quilted. I do believe this is a pattern that could be purchased during this era. Kit quilts were the rage during the 50's and earlier. The whole-cloth backing along with all other fabrics were supplied. In addition the backing was marked with the quilting design. The craftsmanship was all due to the talent of the quilter and this quilter was talented. In addition to the body of the quilt we have what are called Prairie Points on all edges...a design element that requires a lot of patience.

We also have here a huge array of fabrics dating from the 1940's and 1950's. A delight for a lover of fabric designs.

The idea for this pattern was probably based on the early Tree Of Life Pattern. This is a 20th century rendition.

The original design of the Grandmother's Flower Garden was called a Mosaic, of which many were created in New England. This pattern was brought to us from England. During the 1920s we changed this pattern somewhat so it is now called a Grandmother's Flower Garden. When I look at this quilt it feels more like a mosaic than a Grandmother's Flower Garden.

Created completely by hand from thousands of 1" hexagons, this quilt appears never to have been used. The peach color is also unusual. Thousands of hexagons are a solid peach, with a few calicos with a yellow print or a white print scattered throughout the quilt. I'm thinking these must have been very special fabrics, ones that the quilter treasured for reasons we'll never know. A peach and white colored quilt is very difficult to find. This peach quilt does have a smattering of true pink on some of the edges. I can not imagine the years that it took to make this piece.

Measuring 75 X 93, this quilt will fit a single, a double, or a queen sized bed. The basically two color quilt will be easy to blend in with prints you may have that use this color. The thousands of one inch hexagons are hand outline quilted. The entire quilt has been bound with a 1/4" separately applied white binding. The backing is a solid white, where you can easily see the amazing quilting, which actually makes this quilt reversible.

As a child growing up I spent many many summers at Camp Wingo, which was owned by my aunt. The camp's symbol was the Bluebird of Happiness. Needless to say, this symbol holds lots of wonderful memories for me.

This very happy quilt is comprised of 9 identical 15" blocks, with a crosshatch design of a bluebird on a branch. This quilt, which measures 72" X 72", was originally made for a double bed, but would work just as well on a single bed. The 15" blocks are surrounded with a 3-1/2" sashing of the same color as the bluebird embellishments. We also have an approximately 5-1/2" border with a quadruple row of chain stitch covering the complete circumference of the quilt. The outside edge of the quilt has been pillowcased and closed on the back with a tiny overcast stitch. The white blocks are quilted with a 1" crosshatch design. The blue sashings are quilted in white thread, showing an unusual double chain.

This quilt appears to be hardly used and is in perfect condition. Now organically hand washed and ready to be sent for your at home inspection and approval.

The Dresden Plate quilt was the third most popular quilt design during the 1920s and 30s. This beautifully made example has added an original adaptation to the pattern on the border. The quilter has added three "plates" to the intersections on the outside of the border giving the quilt an almost whimsical effect.

Measuring apx. 75" X 92" this quilt will fit a queen size bed and more than cover a king size bed. There are 20 15" blocks joined with 2-1/2" sashing which is machine pieced to the blocks. There is a 3-1/4" border ending with a 3/8" separately applied binding. Each "spoke" is 4-1/8" long and outline hand quilted. All blocks are crosshatched hand quilted in a 1" grid. The joining sections are quilted by hand in a miniature 1/2" crosshatch pattern. The 3-1/4" border is hand quilted in a 1/2" diagonal crosshatch design. The balance of the sashing is hand quilted in an overlapping "eye" design. All quilting is executed by hand with nice small quilting stitches. The blocks are joined to the sashing by machine.

The blocks are pieced with dozens of 1920s and 30s calicoes. On the back there is a note saying the quilt was finished in 1941....Finishing this quilt must have taken years...totally understandable. The mustard color sashing is in style today as it was back then. So special was this quilt that someone packed it away for over 80 years so you may enjoy this quilt in perfect condition.

Wow!!! Over one thousand fifty four miniature bow ties. Can you imagine the patience required, working to create 2-3/8"bow tie squares over a thousand times?! One part that was good was that the creator could take the pieces with her and work on them while she was visiting at another home. I'll admit I haven't counted the different fabric patterns. Still on another level if you are a lover of fabrics from this era, you will love this quilt!

Completely hand pieced, each miniature 2-3/8" bow...All of the bows, except for those in the two outer rows, are outline quilted. The outer rows ...The quilting stitches are the same, but the quilted patterns are different, though I do not have a clue why the quilter chose this. The backing of the quilt is a whole cloth in a wonderful peach color. The separate hand applied 3/8" binding is of the same fabric. The center of the bow is 3/4" by 3/4", letting you know how small these bows are.

This amazing textile will fit a double or a queen bed, or will make a happy, happy piece of art for your wall. This is a mint quilt, meaning it was never used and never washed. Some people like to collect mint quilts, so I have left it unwashed. However, if you would like it washed, I will do so at no extra cost.

In 35 plus years of selling and collecting antique quilts this is the only quilt I've ever had that was constructed in this manner. In addition to its rarity is the bonus fact that this quilt was never used.

It consists of 180... 5" squares, Mustard and dark mint or would you call the green a greenish teal? Each square was created from four identical triangles. Each triangle was individually made, stuffed and then whip stitch closed. Each triangle is actually a separate little quilt. Each trangle was quilted with an echo quilting design, then four triangles, created from two different colors were sewn together. The squares were then alternated with one square having a yellow triangle on top, then a green one on top. The entire quilt was designed in this way. The edging consists of repeats of a single triangle...You have hundreds and hundreds of baby quilts sewn together.

This quilt is an absolute optical illusion. A "mint" quilt was never used and never washed. Now that I have organically washed it, it is known as an unused quilt. This very happy quilt is now ready to be sent to your home, with free shipping, for your approval.

Piecing a quilt with circular edges is one of the most difficult designs to execute. In this case, we had a woman with the ingenuity to applique the circular edges onto the adjoining piece. The entire quilt was completely executed by hand with minuscule stitches. This quilt consists of 88 .....5-1/2" 'blocks, each block containing a complete repeat of the pattern. We have a 4-1/8" double border, the inner border measures 2-3/8", the outer border measures 1-3/8", ending with a 3/8"separately hand applied binding. We see three different quilting pattern designs used on the quilt. The outer borders are quilted with a horizontal line 1" apart. The main body of the blocks are quilted in a 1" square design while the curved pieces are quilted with an echo pattern. This wonderful quilt appears to have been hardly used, and now organically hand washed and is ready to be sent to you with free shipping for your at home approval.

Almost an antique, this violet and white fuchsia with swags quilt has been perfectly executed. The graphics, the embroidery, the applique, and the quilting, all absolutely perfect.

In the 19th century, the swag would have been the outside border of the quilt. During the 20th century the swag was appliqued on the inside border of the quilt, in this case overlapping on to the main body of the textile.

This quilt has a 13-1/2 inch border with a quarter inch separately applied binding. All applique and embroidery were executed by hand. The blocks and the sashing were pieced by machine. There are 12 approximately 13-3/4 by 16 inch blocks, each one depicting a graceful branch of fuschias. All flowers, branches and leaves are outline quilted.

The border is double lined quilted, normally indicative of the 1840s. Was this quilt made by someone who was instructed by a family member who is passing down a tradition from earlier generations? The purple swags and corner ribbons and the circles joining the swags are all outline quilted. The circle extends over into the main body of the quilt and has a double row of outline quilting. The main body of the quilt has rows of quilted chain design joined by a qilted flowers pattern. All of the quilting is double lined.

This masterfully created visually wonderfull quilt has many aspects that are reminiscent of the 19th century yet was created in the 20th century and is almost a true antique. We have a quilt that was never used and never washed. I have now organically hand washed this quilt and it is ready to be sent to your home, with free shipping for your approval.

I have searched for Hawaiian quilt patterns in order to name this quilt, to no avail. Appearing to be a Hawaiian pattern with all Turkey Red applique designs, echo quilted...actually they are quilted 1/4" apart! I do know that in 35 years I have never seen a quilt like this.

The white areas are cross hatched quilted on the diagonal 3/8" apart! The quilting is truly amazing, however, not the way a true Hawaiian quilt would have been quilted. The entire quilt would have been echo quilted. The applique, reverse applique, and quilting are outstanding...Not only do we have amazing graphics, but quilting among the best you will ever see.

The border is 6" in width. The treadle machine separately applied is 3/8" in width. Some red appliques are quilted with red thread, some quilted with white thread. One cannot see this without being very close. Turning the quilt over one can easily see the outstanding quilting.

Hard for me to covey this amazing work, this quilt needs to be seen to be truly appreciated.

A dated 1925 crib quilt copying a classic late 18th Century and early 19th century Flowers in an Urn pattern. This rendition was pieced with feedsack cotton muslin...some of the writing on the feedsack can still be seen. All pieced and appliqued fabrics are 1925 cottons. This little treasure is pieced by machine, but hand appliqued and hand quilted..

The outer borders measure 7-1/2", the next border measures 1/2" with the inner diminutive Split Triangle border measuring 1-1/4". Each diminutive triangle measures 1-1/4" by 1-1/4" X 1-3/4".

The outer border is beautifully quilted with a vine and leaves motif. The date 1925, and "from Mother" is quilted in one of the borders. The flowers, borders and triangles are all outline quilted while the balance of the quilt is crosshatches quilted in a 1-1/2" grid pattern. There is a wonderful array of c.1925 Calicoes used to make the little triangles.

It has never been used or washed. I was the first person to organically hand wash this little quilt. Now ready to be sent for your approval, with free shipping.

Coming from Holmes County, Ohio, this Amish Bricks Pattern quilt was created from the fabrics used in the creation of their clothing. Due to the size of this quilt it is called a hired man's bed or a child's quilt. Either term is applicable.

The overall size of this quilt is 45" X 65". The outer border, in black, measures 8-1/4" of which there is a 5/8" seperately applied binding. The inner border in blue measures 2-3/8".

I have reason to believe this to have been a mother-daughter project. The design and piecing are absolutely perfect. Because of the dark colors, one cannot see the quilting design on most of the pieces. If you look closely you will see that even though the stitches are even, they are not the usual tiny size. The quilting looks as if a young lady may have assisted her mother; possibly her first quilt. The size of this quilt makes it perfect to use as a wall hanging. The design of the quilt makes it possible to use either horizontally or vertically.

I believe this original design, mostly rayon, hooked rug is African American and created to remember the massacres of the "Red Summer" race riots of 1919. During that summer there were nunerous race riots that began with the Chicage riot caused by an African American boy swimming at a "white only" beach. During that summer there were hundreds of African Americans killed, in various riots, resulting in the name "Red Summer". The bullseye center symbolizes this slaughtering of human life.

Constructed on burlap using rayons, knits and a very few cotton fabrics, to create a graphic and poignantly graphic rare piece of art.

This early 20th century Ohio Star quilt is in mint condition (never washed, never used). This wonderful quilt has been packed away for over 100 years. Today we have a quilt not only that can be used on a queen size bed, but we have a quilt created from patriotic American flag fabric. A fabric that I have never seen before and at this point am unable to find in any book. On this fabric, in addition to the American flag, we have what appears to be a red cross flag and what appears to be the Washington Monument. Another design is a star within a star surrounded by a wreath. Even though I cannot locate this fabric, I feel it is a WWI commemorative fabric.

The quilt is comprised of 42 8” pieced blocks connected with 2” sashing. All work, both piecing and quilting has been executed by hand. All triangles are outline quilted. The center square in each block measures 2-5/8” square, is outline quilted, and then X-quilted. The outside sashing measures 3-3/4”. The white outside border measures 8-1/4”. There is a hand stitched pillowcase edge finishing this quilt. The outside border also has a 5 row chain pattern border.

The pattern of this quilt, which in itself is wonderful, is not what makes this quilt so rare – the American Patriotic fabric has created its rarity. This unused quilt may be used on your your bed or collected as American memorabilia.

99.9% of all quilts I've ever sold were made here in America. I believe this quilt may be an exception, possibly created in either England or France. We can be sure that the fabrics are totally unusual, different from anything else you will see on my webpage. We have pictorial fabrics from the scales of justice to a whimsical rabbit eating a carrot. Maybe someone in the family was a lawyer or a judge, and loved nature! There are numerous pictorial fabrics that I have never seen and calicos that I have never seen. Combine these facts with the perfect graphics of this quilt and we have one fabulous summer quilt. There are hundreds and hundreds of 1-3/4" squares, all of which are on point. There are chintzes, polished cottons, chambrays, and many more. Close inspection shows us that the pattern is based on the 4 patch construction on point, with every 4 blocks joined by a larger 3-1/2" block.

Around the edges, to complete the graphics, the designer needed to add either a single block or two blocks to create the dramatic effect we see here. The piecing was performed using the English piecing method. Even though there are hundreds of quilts created in the US using the same method of piecing, as many of us emigrated from England and the continent, because of these fabrics I do believe this quilt was made elsewhere. A turkey red color fabric finishes the border on each side. The backing is a whole cloth backing created from the same fabric with the 1/4" binding being also of the same fabric. If you turn this quilt sideways if would perfectly fit a queen sized bed with approximately 14" over on each side. If this was my piece of art, and I had a place in my home, I would hang it on the wall. It can be hung in either direction, as there is no top or bottom to the quilt. Created with our patriotic colors is this pictorial c.1930 Ruby McKim stencils quilt. The Mckim stencils have a very distinct format in that the corners are curved and not at a 45 degree angle and very distintive in design.

Created from 10" X 11" stencil design blocks which are embroidered with a deep red cotton twist on off-white chambray fabric. The alternating blocks are a deep medium blue fabric which is also a wonderful chambray. The deep, true red color whole-cloth backing and binding are of the same fabric..chambray. I piont out this fact because chambray fabric is slightly heavier and more durable than most cotton fabrics.

There is a 5" sashing joining the blocks, horizontally and vertically. In addition there is a continuous border extending 6-3/8" beyond the 5" sashing. This is not a separate piece of fabric but is part of the outside sashing. The separate hand applied binding is 3/8". All embroidery and quilting has been executed by hand while piecing was executed by machine.

The pictures embroidered here are representative of a prior concept of early colonial America. The constant in our lives is our American flag, here represented with the 13 stars of early colonial America. The flag would have developed at a later era, but the quilter chose to provide this patriotic symbol along with the others. We have pictorial renditions dating from the 1400s to the late 1700s. There is wonderful quilting on this piece, some of which may be original designs. There are tulips, chain stitching and other embellishments.

We are providing a picture of the whole-cloth backing showing clearly the creative quilting designs. In addition, each embroidered pattern is also outline quilted.

When this quilt was sent to me the owner thought it was a Basket Quilt....well, one like I had never seen... To me it looks like a birthday cake with candles on a cake stand and it is actually called Cake Stand :-) Remember, art is open to personal interpretation. This quilt makes me smile: it's happy :-) The woman who created this quilt had to be not only a gifted quilter but a gifted artist and a happy individual.

Comprised of alternating 7-1/2" blocks on point with all piecing and quilting executed by hand. The cake stand measures 3-1/4" by 6", and is made from three pieces. The cake itself has a base of 6" with 4-1/4" sides. The side "candle" triangles measure 2" by 1-3/8" by 1-3/8". Each piece is outline quilted and in addition there is extra quilting which accents the "candles". The cake stand is made from the same dimensions as the cake pattern with a base added from two triangles, one on each side measuring 2 by 1-1/2 by 1-1/2" plus extra accent quilting.

This very happy quilt is finished with a triple border measuring 3-3/4". The inner most border is white, the middle green border, which is the same color as the cake stand, measures 1-5/8" and the outer white border measures the same. This quilt is finished with a 1/2" separately hand-applied green binding. The only machine work I can find on the quilt is the strip piecing for the outer border.

The delightful cake fabric itself is covered with tiny balloons. The candles are a floral design, bringing together all the colors and adding a splash of purple. The entire quilt is cross hatched on the diagonal, 5/8" apart. The cake stand is outline quilted as each piece, plus there is accent quilting in the design.

The style and expertise of this c.1950s quilt is reminiscent of the mid 19th century. I'm not negating the work of depression era or mid 20th century quilters but rather the style and method used in the creation of this Monkey Wrench quilt. There are many reasons why I am saying this. The first and main reason is that all work, piecing and quilting, was executed by hand. Another reason is the size. This is the size of a quilt that would have been created for a high bed and pre-king size beds.

Maybe the creator of the quilt possessed a family heirloom bed of that size. The fact that there is a 2-1/4" border made up of triangles that measure 2-5/8" X 1-7/8" X 1-7/8" plus a 3/8" completely separately hand applied binding. The border acts as a frame to the main body of the quilt.

The Monkey Wrench, sometimes called the Snail's Trail, was not around in the 19th century, which gives us another clue as to the date. Looking at the quilt from a sociological point of view would tell us this quilt comes from a family of "comfort". I am saying this because all the fabric appears to have been purchased for this project and not from a scrap bag.

The quilting stitches are nice and even and in many places one can still see the pencil lines for the quilting design. On the closeups you will see a picture of the back of the quilt where you can easily see the quilting design on the fabric. All shapes are outline quilted and echo quilted. Plain areas have an unusual spiral leaf design. Other areas are diagonally cross hatched, approx 7/8" apart. The border is cross hatch quilted.

When receiving this quilt it was what is known as a mint quilt. Now that I have organically hand washed it it is considered an unused quilt.

This quilt pattern is a very complicated quilt to piece as it is comprised of many, many pieces. There are some larger pieces, one measuring approx 7-1/2" square and the white square joining block...On top of that there are numerous pieces in a variety of shapes. This is truly, on all levels, not a beginner's quilt!

Red, white, and blue are the colors used in the construction of this pleasingly graphic western motif spread. A few of the machine woven designs seen here are the rising sun, flying birds and numerous cattle brands. Each ranch has their own individulisic design for a branding iron. When cattle roamed the open range the brand was the only way to tell which cattle belonged to whom.

This spread can be used for its original intent as a bed spread or for delightful pillows...or both with a twin bed. Another idea is this artistic spread folded over a bar would make a fun piece of art on your wall either full size or folded in halves, thirds or quarters.

This Basket Quilt has a double border of white and one of blue. Each border measures 2-3/4" in width and gives a feeling of the frame on a piece of art. The binding is a pillowcase edging that is closed by machine.

This triple irich chain quilt is a perfect quilt that is easy to fit into your decor. The yellow and red are all solid color fabrics creating a quilt that is easy to blend in with your fabrics of various hard to match prints.

Comprised of 1-7/8 inch squares that are all hand pieced and joined together with 10 inch blocks. The solid white joining blocks are entirely filled with medallion quilting. The balance of the quilt is quilted with diagonal quilting approximately 7/8 in apart. The binding is turned over from the back to the front and hand stitched down.

It appears that this quilt was never used, and packed away for over 100 years. The very thin batting inside makes this quilt perfect for the summer or in colder weather over another blanket or down comforter.

If a Grandmother's Flower Garden quilt can be described as sophisticated...this is the one. This beautifully executed quilt is comprised of thousands of 3/4" hexagons..all of which are hand sewn together and then perfectly hand quilted around each and every piece. The binding, also hand applied, is of the same green as the paths and measures 3/8" in width. A natural color white muslin is the backing for this quilt. All in all just beautifully constructed and graphically wonderful.

The "path" is comprised of a medium shade of green...one of the most desired colors of that era. There are dozens of wonderful calicos of which I can only find one repeat. No matter what your color scheme you will find that color on this wonderful, what appears to be unused, quilt. The center of each block is a medium shade of yellow. Every block has the same fabric for the outer and the same fabric for the inner circle...except for one! Many say that some women created an obvious difference in one area of their quilt because it was pretentious that they believe that they are perfect. On this quilt one block has alternating shades of pink in the inner circle....some wonderful character to this quilt. Yes, this is conjecture,but, I believe that here is one such case...

Rayon is the natural fiber, yet man made rendition of silk. A less expensive version and sometimes more substantial than expensive silk. All of these attributes made it more readily affordable to the majority of families. These colors are the colors the Amish use and the Amish were known to use Rayon fabric. I cannot prove that this quilt is Amish, but I do believe it is. All fabrics on the front are solid colors as were used by the Amish. The backing, also Rayon, is a calico of a green print on black. The Amish were allowed to use prints on the backs of their quilts as the backs were not readily seen and therefore not pretentious.

The contrast between the light rows and the dark rows, to my eyes, causes visually an optical illusion effect which in turn causes the quilt to almost pulsate. This quilt is stunning!

Every color the Amish used is in this quilt...all the adults colors and all the children's colors...We seem to have an entire color range from black to white used in the creation of this piece of art.

A quilt such as this probably was created for Sunday and not to be used. Today we have a captivating piece of art for your wall.

The designer, quilter and embroiderer of this totally unused quilt was indeed a master of her skills. As I am writing this the quilt is mint...never washed and never used...However, as I am about to organically wash the quilt it becomes titled unused.

It is comprised of 36..yes, 36.... 10" blocks of all different unused calicoes or plaids for the bodies and coordinating solid colors for the bonnets. Each Sue is outline embroidered. In addition, her hats are beautifully embroidery embellished. During the Depression, when many were out of work and finalcially hurting, this family was safe and secure. We know that from the purchased yardage of fabric. The beautiful rich deep Peach color fabric is used not only for the sashing and binding, but also for the backing. The peach wholecloth fabric backing has created a completely reversable quilt.

Sue is double lined outline quilted. There is a 4" sashing, 2" joining blocks, a 4' scalloped border and is finished with a 1/4" applied peach binding. Pieced by machine, this beautifully jubilent quilt has had all other work done by hand. The quilting is small and perfectly executed as is all the stitching and embroidery work. The Sue blocks have 1" crosshatch quilting, the sashing has groups of diamond within a diamond quilting design. The size is so unusual for this era...the bonus is this wonderful quilt will perfectly fit a queen size bed....or if you wish..a double size bed :-)

Wow...It is so amazing when one sees such a powerfully graphic antique quilt as wall art. Here is one such example...In addition this quilt would be stunning on a bed!

The Ocean Wave quilt pattern originated on the East Coast of America and migrated West with Eastern transplants. This Ocean Wave quilt was created in Illinois from dozens of different c.1900 to c.1928 calicoes. The triangles that make up the pattern measure 2"x2"x3". Majority of the triangles appear to be of one or another shade of blue. Due to the design of this pattern the center joining block is on point. Here the fabric used is a very pleasing shade of peach. The finishing edge is a 1/2" red and white applied polkadot fabric.

Entirely hand piece and hand quilted in 1-1/2" grid in the joining blocks, with one side of each triangle quilted, the effect is that of optical illusion ...first I see the Ocean Wave pattern ..then I see the peach joining blocks....to my eyes the effect is visually wonderful.

This quilt is registered with the Illinois Quilt Documentation Project. In perfect condition, but soft in feel from being used, this quilt has been organically washed by Betsey and is ready to be sent for your in home approval....quilts are always sent free of charge...

There are two of these, almost but not quite identical. They share many of the same fabrics...What a happy room these would create!

The Grandmother's Flower Garden pattern can only be pieced by hand. The second most popular quilt pattern during the Depression, it is still much loved and treasured. The amount of work that goes into the composition of this pattern is staggering....the earliest patterns were Mosaics, usually made from silk, many foundation pieced, without the specific color order we see on 20th century quilts and came to us from England. The name and design of this pattern was created in the 1920's.

This quilt was created in the 1950's and used many of today's, in fashion, colors...GREY!!..and more.

Made for a twin bed, this quilt can also be used, because of its size, as a throw for any size bed....or anywhere else you may want a cuddly coverup.

Each side of these (hundreds) of hexagons measure 3/4"..the outside ring of each garden is a solid color, the inside row is a coordinating calico, the center of each is a yellow/gold solid. The order of the print and solid rows is juxtaposed to the normal design and therefore rare and unusual. There is a separate applied 3/8" binding. The outside edge of each row is quilted, the center circle is outline quilted and the Gardens are joined by a white path.

During the 1890's there was a craze for the style called "Red Work "...The Victorian era was rich with beautiful embroidery embellishment on silk and woolen quilts. A simpler style was created where the sewers could iron on stencil patterns then execute the stitching...usually a simple embroidery stitch. These quilts were created mainly using cotton fabric and therefore children could join in the style of the era. At that time the quilts were mostly red and white with the embroidery executed in red thread.

This C.1925 ..what I am calling "Blue Work" quilt, is the only one I have ever owned. I am surmising that the sewer was probably older...Maybe a Grandma making this for her grandchild :-)....She was using a style that was meaningful to her and deemed by her family too precious to use.

Created from 42 blocks, each measuring apx. 7-1/2" square, this quilt is a simple blue and white, the most popular color in our country. We have embroidered pictures of children, animals, flowers, days of the week, fairy tales and much more.

The sashing on this quilt, evoking happy feelings, measures 3-1/2" ..there is a double outside border with the blue measuring 3-1/8" and the white measuring 3-1/2". The perfectly executed quilting designs are : 1-1/4" crosshatching in the squares, "X" quilting design in the joining blocks, chain design in the sashing with diagonal quilting 1-1/2" apart on the borders. This quilt is finished with a separate applied white binding.

Used here is the shade of red as seen in mid to early 19th century Turkey Red dyed fabric. However, this is a 20th century chemical dyed fabric not a vegetable dyed one.
A very graphic quilt created only in red and white becoming an optical illusion piece of art due to the pattern and the strong contrast with the white and wonderfully strong red. Beautifully machine pieced then hand quilted, this is a quilt to add to your home for its graphics, not its quilting. I feel that two different women created this piece of art...a meticulous piecer and graphic designer and a not so wonderful hand quilter!
Created from 9-1/2" blocks and finished with a 1/4" binding turned over from the back to the front then hand stitched down. This pattern creates for me what I first view as An Irish Chain pattern, then a Rob Peter to Pay Paul pattern and then a Center Medallion pattern....all together creating a wonderfully graphic optical illusion quilt...perfect for a wall calling for a red and white piece of textile art.

Quilts come in all sizes and shapes...however, this one was created for a twin or single size bed in all different depression era pastels...greens, blues, yellows, pinks, etc. ...I'll bet for a little girl. Today we also use this size as a throw for a bed or couch... a summer wicker couch throw sounds like a wonderful idea...
Circular patterns are the most difficult to execute. These blocks are circular not square or rectangular! I have over 700 quilts in my shop and I could not find more that five or six with a circular block formation.
Oklahoma really suffered during the depression. This sewer had geometric skills that took her work to a higher level. Probably graphically created from the pieces left over from making clothes. There is a wonderful array of calicoes from that era displayed here... even some conversation prints!
Each circular block measures 15" in diameter....with the center 2-1/2" square and the corner pieces measuring 6-1/4" tip to tip.....The extended Nine Patch is one of the earliest patterns to be printed for widespread use....This is the only one here with a rare circular block formation.

Unused...beautiful and will fit a queen bed...Don't let the description "kit Quilt" alarm you.. all this means is that the manufacturer supplied all the necessary fabric, batting and thread needed to create a beautiful quilt. Sewers and quilters came, as today, with many different skill sets. There are beautifully executed kit quilts and many different levels...the higher levels are the quilts I choose to buy.
The colors used for the flowers and leaves are the array of pastels seen during the depression era...they are happy and as such would cheer up an environment. A summer home...a beach home or just for the making of a happy bedroom.
The binding and scallop design are in mustard, a wonderful contrast to the pastels. Both the applique and quilting are executed using small stitches. We have echo quilting showing off the center medallion and the scalloped inner border..We have flowers and leave quilting ...The entire quilt is covered with a variety of quilting designs. The border is edged with a 3/8" applied binding.

As difficult as it is to find a very, very large antique quilt..it is equally difficult to find an exciting twin or single bed size antique quilt in perfect, unused condition...and in blue and white! Blue is the most sought after color in our country.

History is comprised of real events, however, sometimes the history we are told has been construed to fit the ideas of the time.
This original designed pieced pattern appears to resemble an early American frontier fort. The pieced pattern may be original, but the embroidered vignettes were created c.1925 during the Red Work craze by Ruby McKim. These depict the views of America held by many people at that time...today we know better!.....This one of a kind, beautifully hand pieced, hand quilted, hand embroidered (using black thread) and showing numerous medallion designs, is in unused condition. The fabrics used here are an excellent quality cotton. an off white and a rich medium blue. The quilt is hand bound with a 1/4 inch blue binding.
There are images of the west as was told to Americans at that time....one vignette that is accurate is the one showing a colonial woman at the spinning wheel.

An unusual Log Cabin design. Sounds like an oxymoron to me.... There are many, many different Log Cabin patterns that have been created using every imaginable fabric that can be stitched in strips. Most are variations of commonly known patterns. Here is one that is very unusual....Created all by hand in 7-1/2" blocks..80 of them in total ...and made up from 1" logs using cotton fabrics dating from the 1860's to the 1920's. The 5/8" binding is turned over from the front to the back, a continuation of the 6-5/8" turkey Red border. This binding technique is unusual for New England. The quilt is a summer weight, meaning that there is no batting. The backing is a khaki color dress lining fabric. Could this woman have been a dressmaker and these are left over scraps? If so why the huge range in fabric dates? The center red chimneys are quilted using red thread. Condition of this quilt appears to be unused and would adorn the top of a king size bed or drape over the sides of a queen size bed. Yes, this quilt would also be a wonderful piece of art for your wall and can easily be folded in half or quarters for a smaller space.

The grandmother’s flower garden quilt design was the second most popular design created during the depression era. One of the reasons for this was because most of it could be made from scrap fabrics. This quilt is artistically arranged and comprised of hundreds of 1" hexagons. This pattern is one of the most time consuming quilt patterns to execute as each hexagon piece has to be sewn together by hand. The master seamstress/quilter would also hand quilt around the inside of each hexagon. Finishing the edge with a thin binding is also a challenge because with most of these quilts, there lacks a straight side. Instead the edge follows the pattern design. An added whimsical feature are the yellow free flowing hexagons, creating a delightful feeling and an unusual rendition.

The term "whole cloth" means repeats of the same fabric sewn together to give the illusion of one large piece of fabric. Usually when you see such a happening the quilter wanted to show off her quilting ability. With the solid fabrics this quilt is perfect for a room with many different complicated fabrics. This turquoise green color typifies one of the 1920’s palates. A wonderful attribute of this quilt is that it is turquoise green on one side and yellow on the other, creating a completely reversible quilt... therefore actually two quilts in one. A sociological clue to this quilt is that it had to be made from purchased fabric - so perhaps from a family with discretionary income. The beauty of this quilt is, as mentioned, the graphic quilting. It includes a chain stitched design outer border, cross hatching 3/4” apart and a center medallion wreath. The edging is pillow cased. I’m conjecturing when I say this was created by a women who likes to quilt rather than piece. In perfect unused condition. Organically hand washed and ready for your home.

The true colors seem impossible for me to capture...these are the best we seem to take.
This quintessential Lancaster Amish Bars quilt is comprised of a rich deep coffee, a rich red/burgundy and a deep medium blue. The four border blocks are a signature of the Lancaster Amish quilts. Amish woman in the early part of the 20th century and before used wool as their first choice in fabrics. The fabrics used here are fine wool challis. The exception in fabric type is the cotton whole-cloth backing in a tiny muted check. Amish woman were allowed to use printed, plaid or check fabric for the backings of their quilts. Not seen is not being pretentious.
The Bars on this quilt measure 6" in width with an 11-1/2" outer border and a 2-3/4" inner border which circumvents the inner Bars. Lancaster Amish quilt bindings are typically wide and here measure 1-1/8" in width.
The outer border has an unusual criss crossing wreath pattern and the blue that encircles the bars has a chevron and windmill quilting pattern. Diagonal cross hatching is the pattern chosen for the Bars in a 7/8" grid. Quilting executed in a basket pattern is seen in the four corner blocks.

Because of the large dimensions and the fact that this quilt can be used in either direction, it will fit a single, double or queen size bed. Completely appliquéd and quilted by hand with a pillowcase, slightly scalloped edging, also finished by hand. An exquisite center medallion has been executed on this quilt. To obtain a kit quilt, someone would send away to one of the cotton batting manufacturers and purchase a pre-stamped top, a backing and all the pieces to execute a beautiful quilt. Usually but not always, these kits were appliqué kit quilts. I’m not sure if this quilt was never used, but it was certainly hardly used. When one looks closely, one can still see the blue dots to follow for quilting. There is an alluring array of quilting patterns seen on this piece. Some include wreaths, other wreaths circling the quilt and quilting that mirrors the bows. Nicely executed, and as a crowning touch, todays colors are seen here. We are aware that color combinations from the Amish quilts are unique to the Amish since they’re from the limited scope of the colors of their clothing. Comprised of both wool and cotton, this 9 Patch Quilt design is taken to another level due to the 4 corner blocks on the outer and inner borders...only found on Lancaster Amish quilts.. The typical 1” wide binding is an olive green wool which is also used in the creation of the 9 patch blocks. The outer border measures 10-1/2” in width and has a very Lancaster County floral wreath design quilted in all the blue sections. The corner blocks are quilted in a bouquet design held with ribbon. The next border measures 4” in width and quilted the same the way. Each of the 4 corner squares in the inner border are quilted with the same floral design. The main body of the 9 patch has been quilted in a 1-3/8” cross hatch pattern. All piecing has been done by machine and the entire quilt is hand quilted with small even stitches. The backing is a solid pumpkin colored cotton....the Amish could use fabrics different from their clothing for the backs of their quilts. The rust and lavender fabrics are cotton and all the green fabric is wool. Quilts are always sent on approval..

I found a very creative and well executed 20th century rendition of a 19th century tulip appliqué quilt. This coverlet had been painstakingly created with cut cotton chenille stitching being completely hand done. Original, unusual and beautifully executed. This piece of art is a happy light weight cotton bed cover.
Measuring 75 x 92”, this piece will nicely cover any size bed from a twin to a king as it can be placed in either direction. The creator had edged this coverlet with a 3” pink border surrounding the off white main fabric. The colors used in this folk art piece are typical for the 1920s and 1930s. A very old Amish quilt or a piece of Modern Art ?

This Lancaster County Amish Trip Around the World is both brilliant and dynamic. The selection of colors seem to draw one's sight towards the center of the textile. A full array of colors used in children's clothing is used here along with a few of the adult clothing colors. Created from wool crepe and cottons, it appears that this quilt has never been used. The squares measure 3-1/2”, the outside border measures 16” in width (including a 2” binding). The border is quilted in a design of a bouquet of flowers held together by ribbon. A most unusual quilting pattern. The piecing is done with a treadle machine while quilting is executed by hand in small and even stitches. This combination of quilting methods is typical of the Amish. Cross hatching has been created in a 1" diagonal grid resulting in an “x” quilted through each square. The four corner squares measure 14-1/2” and visually let us know that this quilt was definitely created in Lancaster County. Ready for viewing on approval in your home. This quilt will make an amazing statement on your wall or used as bedding.

Happy and perky would be the way I describe this center medallion appliqué quilt. I believe this is a kit quilt, however, I’ve been unable to locate the company that distributed it. This quilt has been appliquéd using some of the tiniest stitches I have ever seen. The light and dark purple grapes have been stuffed. All applique work including the grapes, leaves and vines are outline quilted. The beautifully quilted center medallion shows a display of clusters of quilted grapes and leaves. There are only 4 solid colored fabrics used in the creation of this quilt, making it an easy addition to any home using these colors. The appliqued vines range from 1/8" to 1/4” in diameter while the grapes are 3/4” in diameter. Diagonal quilting radiates out from the center in 1-1/8” grids. The direction of the grid quilting draws one's eye into the center and the beautiful medallion. A quilt fit for a queen size bed with 6-1/2” overhang on each side. A stunning addition for a summer home or any environment that is bright and cheery. In perfect and what appears to be unused condition, this quilt has been organically washed and is ready to be sent for your viewing and approval.

This Postage Stamp Trip Around the World is comprised of over 4200 1” squares and is absolutely mind boggling for the amount of precise and graphically perfect piecing in this quilt. :-) There are over 40 different fabrics, solids and calicos, all pieced and quilted meticulously by hand. The border is wonderfully finished with prairie points and pillowcase edged. The quilting is wonderfully executed. Because of the 80" size this amazing quilt will fit a queen size bed or completely cover the top of a king size bed. As you can see, this quilt is also a major piece of art for a wall in your home. Where there is not an actual top or bottom, you can hang it either way. The direction it’s shown here, vertically, adds height to the room. This whole cloth completely reversible quilt is mint green on one side and a warm yellow on the other. The quilt has been beautifully quilted using a darker green thread. Only a quilter with perfectly executed stitches would show off her work in such a prominent way. Quilting stitches and designs show beautiful wreaths, feathers and flowers which have been quilted throughout. All areas that are not design quilted are filled completely in with cross hatching. A delightfully happy Sun Bonnet Sue Quilt created with fabrics from the 1920’s and 30’s. On this Sunbonnet Sue design some of the Sue’s actually look like they’re walking and dancing. The creator must have been a happy person. Originally this quilt would have been made for a double bed with a large overhang and pillow tuck. Today, it will fit a queen size bed with a 10” overhand and pillow tuck....or a twin or double sized bed. The outer white border measures apx 7-1/2 inches with an unusual Gothic quilting design The innermost 3-1/2 inch pink border is quilted using a chain design.Each little girl is outline quilted. The 1/4 inch binding is applied by machine and closed by hand. The stitches are nice and even. Unused condition..... Organically hand washed and ready for approval in your home.

Happy, happy, happy :-). This is the best way I can describe this quilt top. As a result of the foundation pieceing, this quilt top doesn’t need to be quilted, only tied. The basic block is a 7” crazy quilt diamond. Then 11 plus diamonds are put together to create a strip 75” long. The next step was 14 of these strips sewn together to created this top. The foundation piecing was done by hand. The blocks and strips were then sewn by machine giving you a sturdy piece to work with. No matter what your depression era color scheme is, those colors are going to be on this quilt top. All of the fabrics on this quilt top are unused. It appears that these were scraps left over from whatever this seamstress was making. The two end rows are solid pieces of fabric instead of being pieced in a crazy quilt manner. This creates two borders for the quilt top. This top can be used in any direction. The photo shows the direction that looks (to my eye) the best when hanging. In unused ...unwashed condition...to be sent for your approval..

Happy would be one of the best words to describe this School House Summer Coverlet. Created with a very vibrant red, blue and yellow house crowned with a black roof and red chimney. The schoolhouse blocks are pieced by machine and then appliquéd on to the ecru block by machine with a very tiny outline appliqué. The joining seam of each block is covered with a 1/2” fabric strip matching the windows in the schoolhouse. The entire piece has a 1/4” binding all around. This graphically wonderful coverlet can be used as either art for your wall or as a coverlet for your bed. Hand washed by Betsey and ready to be shipped on approval...

Turquoise is one of today’s designer colors. A simple and graphic piece of art with a solid color tourquoise will complement any decor. Bright and happy, this color was popular in the 1920’s, 1950’s and now again. This 4 inch 9 patch is comprised of 1-1/4” squares. Each turquoise and white block is joined by a solid white block of the same size. The border consists of an inner border of 1-1/2” in turquoise and an outer border of 2" in white. The outside edge of the border is 3/8 inch turquoise binding. The quilt is completely made up of only two fabrics. It is hand pieced and hand quilted, and the binding is hand applied. There are 3 different patterns of quilting on this piece. The outside border is cross-hatched, the 9 patch is a diagonal double line quilting and the white blocks are quilted with a two crossing ellipses. In pristine unused condition. This sweet little crib quilt has been lovingly used but is in remarkably wonderful condition. The creator of this little treasure put so much love into the creation of this little piece of art. The plates measure 5” from tip to tip. The little Dresden spokes measure 1-7/8“ top to bottom with 1” center circles. It is nicely quilted and would make a wonderful piece of art in a child’s nursery or in other rooms with pastel colors. Hand quilted and hand appliquéd with a binding that is put on by machine and then finished by hand. There is a little wear on the binding, but it is hardly noticeable. This one of a kind Red Work Child’s Quilt appears to have taken 6 years to complete as it is dated 1904-1910. This special political, folksy Red Work quilt top has been created from 30 6-1/2” blocks joined together with a 3-1/2” red sashing. There’s an American flag flying over embroidered and dated initials, embroidery representing fireworks, probably representing the 4th of July celebration. This piece is filled with Victorian symbolism and items important to a little girl's life. Antique quilt tops are never washed until they are quilted, so this is in original, as found condition. Discovered in Maine. All ready for you to quilt or collect as is.

Three blocks of different designs are combined to create what I believe is an original quilt pattern. One block is a quarter of the Blazing Star pattern block. One block is a 12 block formation, while the third block is placed around the outside of the pieced pattern. This is a rectangular block that is a combination of the other two blocks. The wide border is edged with a delicate scallop and finished with a 1/4 inch hand binding. The quilting design and the quilting are small and perfectly executed. This is an amazingly beautiful quilt that had never been used or washed. The delicious strawberry color is a focal point of today's color schemes. Now professionally hand washed by Betsey and ready for its new home, it will fit any size bed. Must be seen to fully grasp the beauty and graphics of this quilt.

This Strip Pieced Cotton Crazy Quilt was executed in a formation of fifty six 9-inch blocks, pieced by hand and tied. The quilt was tied to secure the thick cotton batting inside, as this was made for warmth. Very happy daisy floral whole cloth backing in blue, white, red and pink. The quilt is reversible because of the whole cloth backing. Hand stitched 1-1/4 inch turned over binding from back to front. Professionally hand washed by Betsey and ready to use.

This delightfully happy quilt is comprised of 7-1/4 inch outline quilted pieced cactus basket blocks with solid white blocks all on point. The artist who chose these colors loved happy spring and summertime colors. The cactus basket blocks, because they are created on the diagonal, bring the artistic view of this quilt to another level. The outside edge has a 3 inch border with a 3/8” binding. The borders have chain quilting around the entire outside edge. Each border is slightly different from the other. The diamonds have 2-3/8 inch sides, the baskets are completely outline quilted and the white blocks have a quilted leaf design. One can see the beautiful even quilting stitches when turned over. In unused condition. Hand washed by Betsey and ready for a new home.

The addition of bright and lively colors is not common in the world of Victorian crazy quilts. There are 56 blocks with apx 7 1/2” sides. The fabrics used are cotton velvets, cotton corduroys and a very few pieces of silk velvet dispersed throughout the quilt. The mustard gold backing was added later and turned over as a binding. The top stitching embellishment has been executed with various colors of cotton floss. The stitching is simple but adds a graphic touch to this unused quilt. This piece can either be used or hung on the wall as vibrant art.

In excellent condition, this bright and cheerful quilt has been skillfully hand pieced using both a solid medium pink and white cotton. Each block measures 7-1/2 inches square. The border is a variation of the Ice Cream Cone with alternative pink and white pieces. This border is 5-3/4 inches wide, which includes a 3/8 inch separately applied pink binding. The backing is solid white cotton. Completely hand quilted with outline quilting. The white areas are hand quilted with echo heart/floral motifs. The simple color scheme insures that this piece will fit easily into many decors. Due to its size, this quilt could be used on a single, double, and if turned sideways a queen size bed with a footboard. Lovingly used, this quilt is now soft and supple. The stencils for these birds were created by a women whose name I can’t remember. Do you know? If you know her name please email me. I have many embroidery books, and I know I have hers, but it eludes me at the moment. The embroidered blocks measure 8 inches square and are all on point. The joining blocks are a raspberry pink. There are three connected 4-1/2 inch borders all around the outside of the quilt. First raspberry pink, then white, then raspberry pink again, ending with a 3/8 inch white applied binding. All blocks and strips are pieced by machine. The hand quilting is beautifully done. Nice, neat and straight quilting with wreath variations. The cross-hatching on the border is 2 inches apart. The quilt appears to be unused. This 82 x 82 inch quilt will fit a twin, double or queen size bed. Hand washed by Betsey and ready for its new home.

This is an unknown pattern comprised of a combination of at least three or four known patterns. In today’s world, the woman who created this quilt would probably be an engineer. A mathematical and engineering feat, this optical illusion quilt, because of the fabrics, has resulted in a very happy and positive piece of art. Pieced by machine and quilted by hand, the fabrics date from the 1920s to 1950. Each and every triangle is outline quilted by hand and some are echo quilted, also by hand. There is an 8-1/2 inch raspberry pink border with a 4 inch wide rope design quilted all around the edge. The binding measures 3/8 inch and is finished by machine. The corners of this quilt are curved, creating a wonderful effect when on a bed. This graphic quilt would also be great on a wall.

It has today’s colors, raspberry and turquoise. One pattern is a 4 patch broken dishes, one is the LeMoyne or Ohio Star, a third pattern is a variation of Jacob’s Ladder, while the forth pattern is the Ocean Wave. The backing is a whole cloth raspberry pink, enabling this quilt to become completely reversible. What a mathematical masterpiece! This quilt appears to be in perfect, unused condition, is professionally washed by Betsey and is ready for a new home.

In perfect unused condition. The plates measure 11-3/4 inches tip to tip. The plate is made up of 4 inch long segments with a 3-1/2 inch diameter peach circular center. This summer coverlet will completely cover the top of a king size bed with a little over 5 inches on each side. There is no top or bottom to this piece so it will fit a queen or double bed depending which way you turn the quilt. There is a 1/4 inch hand applied scalloped binding. All work is executed by hand with minuscule stitches. Believed to be from west central Maine.

This very happy little youth size cotton crazy quilt has been created by using blocks and sashing. Approx 3-3/4" blocks with 1" sashing. On this quilt you have one of the most amazing arrays of 1920s fabrics. The backing and the binding are very unusual black, white, peach, and pale green print. The sashing where it joins each block has been tied. There is cotton batting inside. This quilt was originally made for a twin bed. Turned sideways it would cover and go over the edge of a queen bed. The best way I can describe this quilt is "very happy". It is completely pieced by hand. The applied binding is also by hand. What a happy way to study the 1920s fabrics. Complete original condition. Very typical of Amish quilts, the piece has been machine pieced and quilted by hand. These are mostly the colors of children's clothing. Each piece is outline quilted. The 4-1/2 inch border has a binding put on by machine and finished by hand. The remaining 4 inches are covered with what appears to be ocean wave quilting. The backing of the quilt is lilac, the color of little girls' clothing. Professionally hand washed by Betsey.

Made for a double bed, but since there is no top or bottom, it could be used on a queen bed. The pinwheel blocks measure apx 18 x 18 inches with triple sashing joining the blocks. Each strip of sashing is apx 1-1/3 inches wide. Each piece in the pinwheel is outline quilted. The center of the pinwheel is 3-3/4 inches diameter. The sashings are joined by a nine patch block at the corner of each square. The white blocks have a diamond in a square quilting. The white strip of sashing along all the blocks is cross hatched. The backing is in the original shade of pink while the front pink is faded. Professionally hand washed by Betsey.

This exquisitely designed quilt is all hand pieced, hand appliquéd and hand quilted. The creator has borrowed concepts from two different social backgrounds to create her piece of art. The 4 block formation was a design from the 2nd quarter of the middle part of the 19th century. The appliquéd motif is reminiscent of a Hawaiian design and may actually be a copy of such. This is beautifully appliquéd, reverse appliquéd and quilted with minuscule stitches. There are stars quilted in the raspberry pink center and around the center of the Hawaiian block. The 24 inch square blocks have an apx 2-1/2 inches of sashing around the blocks creating a visual of 4 separate blocks. The white areas around the appliqué have cross hatched stitching and the each appliqué piece has been outline quilted.

On opposite sides of the quilt the border white is 7-1/4 inches. Nine inch white borders make up the two opposing sides. The front is turned over to the back and stitched by hand for a finished binding. Turned over bindings were often used in Pennsylvania. The backing is a heavy duty cotton almost giving the appearance of linen. In apparently unused condition and now hand washed by Betsey, she is ready for a new home.

Yo-yo’s are used in this 9 patch formation of apx 5 x 5 inches, surrounded by 1 3/4 inches of mustard yellow Yo-yo paths around each block. Because it is sewn by machine onto a muslin backing, this is a quilt that is easy to use. On one end there is a 7/8 inch machine binding in the same fabric and color as the Yo-yo’s that join the blocks. Hung on a wall, this quilt would make a fabulous piece of art.

This is a beautiful Amish rendition of the evening star pattern. It's in mint condition. Pieced by machine and exquisitely hand quilted, this piece has a 3/4 inch appliqued binding finished by hand. We know this was a wedding present by the double lined quilted hearts throughout the 8 inch purple border. the thinner inside warm beige border is 2 inches wide and is quilted with an intriguing geometric pattern. The star blocks are 8-1/2 inches on point. The solid purple interior design is 48-1/2 x 61-1/2. The blocks in the nine patch center are 9 inch square. The turquoise pieces are 1 inch. the beige points are 7/8 inch wide. Light green backing. Absolutely stunning. When I look at this quilt from afar it looks two dimensional.

This exquisite Mennonite quilt is called "Joseph's Coat". The 1/3 inch turned over binding is finished by hand. The strips are machine pieced. The quilting is entirely by hand. There are at least four different quilting patterns on the bars, and the same pattern goes from top to bottom. The border diagonal bars are outline quilted. The close-up photo on my web page will give you an excellent image of the quilting detail. At one time when the quilt was folded inside out, some water hit the back of the quilt and there is now a stain on the back which can't be seen from the front. There is one dime sized stain on the front. It is in perfect condition otherwise.

This funky Bricks quilt has been machine pieced and hand quilted. Created around 1930, I think the soft subdued colors feel very comforting. Because it is 65 x 82 inches, the quilt was made for a single bed. When turned the long way it would cover a queen size bed covering 10 inches on each side. Because of the solid color fabrics it is easy to match with existing fabric choices. I like this quilt sideways, but it was too long to photograph. Professionally hand washed by Betsey.

Antique quilts that show a predominately black fabric are difficult to find. Here we have a Mohawk Trail's quilt that was created in a way that shows not only graphics but movement. This is one quilt that can be turned in any direction and have the exact pattern. Black and white are the main colors..however, there are wonderful calicoes containing greens, blues, purples, pinks, red, yellow and orange colors. There are half moon borders on two ends with a blue, red and white plaid binding. All work is executed by hand. Outline quilting and echo quilting is executed throughout. The blocks are 5-1/2" ..the little pieces are 1-1/2 x apx. 3/4 ".
Created for a double bed..but, then never or hardly used. Today we use so many quilts as art for our walls or this quilt could be a perfect throw for your queen or king size bed or couch.
This quilt has been organically washed and is ready to be sent for your approval.

The person who created this quilt was not only wonderful with piecing, but was also an exquisite quilter. The quilt was created with 12 inch blocks alternating with one in solid white, then a block in a pieced coral/raspberry Rob Peter to Pay Paul. The way the blocks have been placed together resulted in a third pattern; Steeplechase. We now have three patterns comprised on one quilt. The white blocks are beautifully quilted with a wreath. The center of the wreath is quilted in a pinwheel design.

After the blocks had all been pieced together, the quilter finished the quilt using diagonal and straight line quilting throughout. The 8-1/2 inch border is completely covered with rope design quilting. This quilt is edged with a scalloped border following the outline of the rope design. In addition it is fun to see the very slight pencil lines drawn for the quilting design. The edge is finished with a machine stitched pillowcase. I’m not sure why a woman with this ability would use a sewing machine. Perhaps she was quietly boasting to her friends that she owned a treadle sewing machine?

This graphically wonderful quilt is a combination of three patterns creating a totally unusual piece of textile art. Exquisitely designed and pieced then beautifully hand quilted with small perfect stitches. This Pennsylvania quilt is in pristine unused condition. The raspberry solid pink fabrics, which I can best describe as "yummy".. .not very technical term... are used for the squares and triangles. The squares measure 2-1/2" x 2-1/2". The triangles measure 2-1/4 " x 1-1/2" x 1-1/2". By placing these patterns in a certain configuration, the creation is an optical illusion art piece. This is a totally rare and as far as I know, an original quilt pattern. This quilt has a 5-1/2 inch solid white border. The white backing is used to form a turned over binding then closed by hand. The design part of the body of the quilt is cross-hatched throughout while the snowballs are quilted in a Maltese-cross format. The border appears to be an original free flowing flower and vine design. The quilting stitches are small and even. As this quilt measures 76 x 80, it can be used for a single, double or queen size bed. Such a fun and graphic wool quilt in a variation of the Hole in the Barn Door, or House Top, pattern. A lovely combination of both wool and cotton fabrics in bold and graphic patterns and colors. Blocks measure 8 1/2 inches square and are pieced both by hand and treadle machine. With such a variety of color in the octagon shapes the maker chose charcoal gray and black wools for each center hole and all four corners of each block. The color just leaps off the resulting black/charcoal gray ground for a stunning effect.

Entirely hand quilted with black thread in outline stitches throughout and a large 'X' stitched in each 'hole'. Backing fabric is a lovely rose/mauve cotton flannel - see detail image - with an applied 3/8 inch binding in the same fabric. This quilt is in unused condition with a few original, very small moth holes attesting to it being made mostly from wool. We have not touched them as they do not detract from the beauty of the quilt.

A wonderful mid 20th century Amish cotton crib quilt in excellent condition. This lovely and very happy quilt is treadle machine pieced and hand quilted. Solid yellow and white nine patch blocks measure 4 1/4" x 4 1/2" and are set on point with joining blocks in solid, soft medium green. Double borders in 3" green and 2" yellow make a beautiful frame for the inner design.

Hand quilting consists of cross hatch for the 9 patch blocks, Fleur de Lis and circle-in-diamond patterns for the green triangles, diamond chain in the yellow border, with double cables quilted in the outer green border. There are some faint pencil lines used for the hand quilting still visible. The applied solid yellow binding is 1/2" wide and uses the same yellow cotton as the interior. The backing is white.

This classic and timeless basket pattern quilt is executed in a two color combination of solid ocean blue and white muslin. Blocks measure 10 1/2 x 11 and are set on point. Inside the wide 7" white border are triangular solid blue joining blocks adding a border element which highlights the gorgeous shade of ocean blue.

Nicely executed hand quilting on this quilt includes outline, echo outline, echo zigzag and cross hatch stitching in the blocks and triangles, with a five cable rope stitched in the generous outer border. Betsey gave this crisp quilt its first bath and some faint pencil lines used for the quilting pattern remain. Bleached muslin is used for front and back, with a 1/4" applied binding in the same ocean blue cotton as the front.

This marvelous pair of lavender basket quilts is guaranteed to make you smile. What a wonderful set for your twin beds and in a great palette. The baskets are comprised of 2 3/8 x 1 3/4 inch hand pieced triangles alternating from solid lavender to a lovely lavender, yellow, and teal calico, with a hand appliqued lavender handle.

The 11 ¾ blocks have been set on point, and the double border echoes the alternating fabric arrangement of the baskets. The backing is white cotton, and the binding has been formed by turning the lavender border from front to back. These two quilts have been created with extra length to accommodate a pillow tuck, and are in excellent condition. Professionally hand washed by Betsey.

This graphically appealing African American quilt is comprised of solids, prints, stripes and plaids in various shapes, sizes and colors. There are traits that distinguish African American quilting in the first half of the 20th century from any other North American quilting style and this quilt is a classic example. The use of vertical piecing, enlarged, very graphic designs, and asymmetry hark back to African cultures and textile style. This wonderful patchwork is comprised of a variety of feedsacks and other cottons from the 1930’s in a great many colors, however, it strikes a patriotic theme with its emphasis on blue, white and red.

The backing is comprised of unbleached feedsack fabric that shows the feed manufacturer’s screen printed name and various plant locations in pale blue. The backing is turned to the front along most of the quilt’s edge and is hand stitched down to form a binding ranging in width from 3 3/4” to 1/4”. A portion of the quilt’s edge has the front turning to the back to form a binding ranging from 1/4” to 1” wide on the back side. Hand quilted with loosely parallel lines using white string.

From an African American family in Texas, this quilt is a wonderful find in excellent condition. Such a gorgeous and pristine early 20th century kit quilt in off-white with two shades of solid lavender and a solid minty green. Four central water lilies with buds, branches and leaves are surrounded by a deep lavender sashing 2 1/4 inches wide. Additional water lilies, each with a pair of leaves, float outside the sashing with an additional bloom in each corner. The outside edge is beautifully scalloped with a 1/4 inch lavender applied binding following the scallops. Crisp, clean and beautifully executed.

Fine hand quilting includes 1 inch diagonal cross hatch in the off-white background interspersed with lovely stitched flowers. A chain link pattern is stitched in the deep lavender sashing. Each of the appliquéd flowers, leaves, stems and buds is skillfully outline embroidered with cotton floss to match the appliqué color.

This is a lovely appliqué quilt skillfully executed and in crisp, clean, excellent condition. It would make a wonderful addition to any collection containing high quality 20th century quilts. A stunning Dresden Plate quilt unique in both construction and design. The wonderful 8 ½ inch plates are embellished with black buttonhole stitching which also serves to applique them to the white ground. Lovely and unique this quilt enjoys various floral bouquet prints in the center of each plate, with a circle using the same floral bouquets appliqued in between each plate. The 'spokes' comprising each plate include a fabulous variety of 1920's calicos. The piecing of the Dresden Plates and the applique work are all by hand with the blocks assembled by treadle sewing machine.

As a summer weight quilt it has no batting and is constructed using a medium weight white cotton for both front and back giving it a lovely look and feel. This beautifully crafted textile has three sides with 4 ½ inch scallops or 'tongues' decorating the edge - the 'head' of the quilt is straight edged for placing either over or under pillows. The scallops are also hand embellished with black buttonhole stitching. Great care was taken with the cutting and execution of the fussy cut florals and embellishment stitching. This gorgeous, crisp, sparkling clean quilt is the perfect example of everything a Grandmother’s Flower Garden quilt should be! This wonderful textile is representative of all we look for in an early to mid twentieth century African American quilt. The vertical piecing, asymmetry and bold, colorful fabrics with the use of intentionally random sized pieces are all traditional elements of African American quilt design and are in abundance in this lovely piece. Plaids, stripes, paisleys, florals and more dance among solid colored fabrics in this uplifting quilt. There are large gentle arcs as well as areas of straight lines of neat and functional quilting throughout.

This special quilt is in wonderful condition. The edges on two sides have been turned over from the back to the front, and pillowcase edged on the remaining two sides. The backing has been formed by piecing feed sacks.

A totally unique quilt, the creator of this piece took conventional patterns and turned them into a piece of abstract art with incredible movement. The logs have been pieced into abstract pinwheels from a cotton conversation print featuring hats and umbrellas on a black background. Bright pops of yellow, pink, blue, and a multicolored stripe have been placed in the arrangement to give the overall feeling of a cobweb pattern. Various bright feedsack prints have been pieced together to form the backing, and finished with a 1 ¼ inch separately applied yellow calico feedsack binding. In used but excellent condition, and tied with black cording. Subtle and sophisticated, with a visual jazz impact! Professionally hand washed by Betsey and ready to send to you on approval.

Thousands of 1" hexagons are artfully arranged to create a very colorful rendition of the Star of David. Even the border is one I have never seen, created as it is from hexagons. This border is composed of hundreds of hexagons in various depression era fabrics. All piecing and quilting was executed by hand with each hexagon outline quilted. The separately applied blue binding measures 1/4".

The Star of David's are created from a solid color with compatible calicoes of different Depression era prints.
