QT205 Bow Tie Quilt Top
c.1880
72 x 82 inches
New England
$450
We have a c.1880 Bow Tie quilt top with earlier fabrics. The Double
Pink squares are worth more than twice the price of this quilt top.
Completely pieced by hand with blocks that are 6-1/2" square. The
fabrics in the pieced blocks date from c.1855 to c.1880. People save
fabrics ...they were so expensive and even the smallest pieces were
sewn together to make the needed size.
We have plaids, solids, calicoes, dots, checks, and all seem to be
unused. The Bow Tie pattern was, naturally, a favorite to make for your
husband or son. Quilts were very often symbolic of home life, politics
or life itself.
The blocks are comprised of 5 pieces. The center square in the Bow Tie
is 2-1/2" square, 3-1/4" outside to all other pieces. Created from
unused pieces this very happy feeling quilt top is all ready for your touch.
