QT913a Variation of a Hawaiian Quilt Design Quilt Top
c.1940
60 x 62 inches
Pennsylvania
$675
This wonderfully creative individual must have had a love of Hawaiian
Quilt designs. I am not sure, but this could be her own pattern which
definitely emulates the Hawaiian designs. The applique work is perfectly
executed by hand. Each applique piece is completely edged with a
buttonhole embroidery stitch.
There is a 2" border that is sewn on by machine. This addition may be
used either as a border or as a binding, making the finished quilt 56" X
56". This quilt was created in the 4 block design usually seen in the
1840"s. The individual blocks are joined by machine.
The use of just one fabric also gives a feeling of the Hawaiian quilts
even though their fabrics were usually solid colors.
